Reading and judging, I thought to myself that I encounter so many people who are unwilling to change the way they are doing things even when it's not working, even when it's not serving their goals. And then I took a breath and saw how I was sending judgement out.
And you know what they say about glass houses right? So I turned the mirror around and asked myself, "Where am I being un-flexible, unreasonable, stubborn?"
Where have I built a wall between myself and my goal. A wall made of conditions and expectations.
What are the things I need to try that are outside of what I am 'willing' to do?
What are the hard lines I've drawn for myself that just aren't serving me?
And how am I going to change that today?
And I came up with some interesting answers, some interesting growth opportunities that I want to lean into, some non-negotiables that really need to be looked at again, some hard lines that just don't need to be there, and some serious connections I need to be making to find my next powerful client, the one who scares me because she's already so awesome - the one who is already creating magic in the world and wants a coach who will walk the path with her. She's already on her way, what internal boundaries do I need to cross so that she can find me?
Is it true that no one 'gets' their truth? I witness it every day in my work, I witness the beauty and power of someone aligning with who they are at a deep level. I experience it personally every day.
AND that doesn't mean we are free of fear or doubt, it doesn't mean that our humanness never shows up. It does and I hope it always does to some extent, because those are great indicators that I'm moving forward to the next level of consciousness for myself. Those are moments when I KNOW I'm pushing the edge of my comfort and it's time to keep in movement. To allow it to flow through me, to recognize how powerful those moments of intense energy are.
I can only speak to what is true for me. I stand up and take stand for whatever it is I believe in, but I never expect others to believe or follow. I hope what I say or write resonates with some, that tiny shifts happen. But I don't TRY to make change anywhere - because that's not up to me.
I don't preach.
I'm not a guru.
I don't have all of my shit together.
I just try to show up as the best version of me I can be in this moment.
Who would I need to be to always be powerful? To come from my truth in all things? To shed the internal judgements of myself and allow the messy, unruly me come through.
I've trying to 'figure it out' and 'compartmentalize it'. I've been trying to define it, understand it, express it. So that's what I am going to change today. Today I'm just going to feel it, experiment with it, see how far I can push my inner limits, cross those invisible lines that say everything past this point is impossible.
I don't need to define my power.
I don't need to judge it.
I don't need to force it out.
I don't need to fight with it for control.
I don't need to see it as a threat.
I don't need to feel like it is something outside of me, separate and different.
I just need to allow it to permeate my heart, to breathe it in and out. To experience it as the true me, the one waiting to be seen.
I just need to BE.
Are you looking for a magic bullet?
Ramit Sethi writes… "In the world of personal development, there’s a concept called the 'Magic Bullet.' Marketers spend thousands of dollars to learn how to master the concept, but I’m going to teach you how it works right here.
A Magic Bullet is the ONE THING that people believe will help them achieve their goals. Although we “know” that success is really about a complex, nuanced interaction of many elements, most people look for the single thing they believe will help them finally change.
Weight loss: “What diet are you on?” (As if the diet alone will change everything)
Money: “Who are you investing through?” (You’ll hear this as you get older. People in their 40s use this as their money Magic Bullet, as if knowing some amazing investor will ensure they get amazing investment returns….uh no)
Career: (Pop quiz: Can you guess the Magic Bullet people use for their careers? It goes like this: To get a better job, I need to ____ ____ ____ )
Once you truly understand the MB concept, you’ll see it everywhere, because unscrupulous marketers know how powerful it can be. Hence the millions of websites shouting taglines like, “THE ONE SUPERFOOD YOU MUST EAT!!!”
Do you want me to feed you a line of bullshit about how if you do JUST THIS ONE THING, you can be successful? Or would you rather I tell you the truth about how hard success is — then show you the exact roadmaps to get there?" (read the full article here - it's totally worth the read)
Listen, success can only come when you clear out the mental chatter. When you learn to trust your inner voice and peel away the layers that are blocking your magnificence from shining. I'm talking about success in your business and success in your LIFE.
The question of 'how' do I do this is boring… but the question of 'why aren't I doing this' is sexy. That's where we'll go. To the deeper levels within you that are just waiting to step into their power and take control of your own destiny.
If you are a magic pill seeker, go join B-School or one of the thousands of courses that promise 6 figures overnight. Come back when those formulas don't feel right.
If you want to succeed from a place of power and authenticity, if you are interested in self growth as a vehicle to make an impact on each life you touch then you're on to something magical.
You don't have to build a business that involves social media posting, perfect tag lines, stupid sales pitches, get rich by doing x-y-z or 'getting out there in a big way' (whatever that means) but you can build something based on relationships and open hearted awesomeness.
Just got off of a call where I witnessed 4 amazing powerful women, ones I love and admire, all say something to the effect of 'if I only knew how to tell people what I do… if I only knew what my message is".
And I have to say very simply "Bull Shit".
I hear their message every time they open their mouths or we have an interaction. It's all there in front of them. But here's the thing... they don't really have a message, do they? Because ultimately WE ARE our message.
My message changes from moment to moment, depending on who is in front of me for the listening and honestly, my message is messy and complex.
People want something neat and tidy, that 10 second elevator speech that works every single time so others are all like 'whoa, that's awesome'.
So hey, if you want to be a little perfect robot rattling off a pre-recorded sentence about who you serve and how then stop reading right now. Because nothing bores me more than hearing someone rattle off that shallow shadow shit of who they are. Who YOU are is so much more interesting than some memorized tagline.
What are you passionate about? What drove you onto your path? Tell me a story and paint me a picture so vivid that I don't even care about the words you're sharing but am engaged with who you are showing up as. That's sexy. That's what people will remember. That's what will make people lose their breath and say 'whoa, that's awesome.'
YOU are your message. Be raw and authentic, show up with tears in your eyes and your heart in your hand. Show up genuinely excited about something, whether it's underwater basket weaving or a coaching conversation that blew your mind - whatever it is in that moment where you experienced real life emotion.
Listen to yourself speak.
Your message is already contained within your words.
Your message oozes out of you when you don't censor or hold back.
Your message cannot help but find it's way to the surface in everything you do.
YOU are your message.
For years I hear people saying how important finding your 'why' is. What is your powerful why? You have to know your why. I hear people saying things to the effect of 'change the world' or 'create a revolution of love'. Why do you do what you do? Why are you on your current path? That's all so inspiring… but it's not what wakes me up in the morning. I have never known my 'why'...
Or perhaps I have but it's really hard for me to accept, because it pushes on the "I'm selfish" edge. What I found is that when I think of the 'save the world' or 'change people's lives' type of why, I think to myself that that is a RESULT, a natural outcome that occurs only when I show up from a place of expansion.
So my why isn't about anything or anyone else. My why isn't one that's going to be politically correct in the way I think it works.
My Why? What wakes me up in the morning and drives me to the core? The one that scares me to admit?
My purpose is to become the most expansive, enlightened version of ME that I can possibly become in this lifetime. To spend every waking moment consciously opening up my soul and merging it with my whole self.
THIS… "We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." -Marianne Williamson
My why is ME
and I am on a mission from God
I don't know what it looks like or how it will show up, but if I focus on me and my own expansion, I'll create ripples I didn't know were possible, ones I may have missed if I pigeon-holed myself into a why that wasn't complete for me.
So yeah, I coach because I can only lead people down a path I am willing to walk first. Coaching compels me to constantly stretch and grow. It challenges me to focus each day on my powerful 'why'. Coaching and changing lives is the RESULT of my personal journey and other peoples' transformation is facilitated by a simple a mirror of what I create for myself.
What is your "WHY"?
I don't aim to be FEARLESS. Fear is natural. Fear tells me that I'm pushing myself past the edge of my comfort zone. Fear tells me that I'm claiming something beyond what my mind can imagine. Fear is good.
What I aim for is being POWERFUL. Being powerful means getting messy and doing things that need doing. Being powerful is feeling that fear and not letting the story of it get in the way. Being powerful is a state of being that cannot be taken away - like an internal flame shining brightly in the dead of night… irresistible, calling to warm your soul and feed your senses.
How can you show up more powerfully in your life today?
