Staying off Facebook... avoiding all the talk about kicking off our year the 'right' way, planning and goal setting. It stresses me out unnecessarily to look into the future and pretend like I can somehow control it, map it out, itemize it and place it into a cleverly crafted calendar of tasks and deadlines.
I don't know what this year will hold. I have some visions I'd love to dive into, not because it's a new year, but simply because I feel like it. We don't have to wait until January 1 of whatever year to start living into the best year of our life. We can do that anytime. Right here. Right now. No plans. No goals. Nothing more than BEING who we most desire to be right now in this moment. I used to be that person, who would cleverly set myself up for success year after year - until I realized, I never needed to do that at all. I'm not a chess piece. I'm just me. Beautiful, Magical, Fucking Amazeballs ME. No 2015 planning required for that, thank you very much....

I read this last night and I woke up still disgusted... "this week one of my clients quit. And yes, she is under contract… which is why we do contracts because we know 80% of you are quitters. The contracts help us attract the 20% and deter the 80%. But sometimes a quitter applies anyway… Good news: Her shrinking is now your opportunity."
I don't understand what's to gain from publicly shaming someone. I don't understand why fear tactics are necessary to fill a program. I don't understand what is to gain here... another $5k for a new client? Is that really worth the bad Karma and judgement? What would happen if we just loved our clients and respected their decisions? This response says that her business is all about her, not about her clients. And that's sad. I see it all the time especially from the bigger names - irrevocable contracts for programs that aren't always a match for the people who buy into the marketing speak, only to find that once inside it's not as awesome as it sounded. I've heard of people being forced to sign legal contracts when they leave a program to never speak badly of the program or they will be sued. And prior to that they are emotionally attacked for being a quitter, stripped down of what self esteem they have left. Wake up coaching industry! Coaching doesn't have to be about the numbers. My style isn't for everyone. If my clients want out, I send them love and they move on. Because coaching isn't about ME - it's about what my clients need & want. Sometimes it's not me. And, that's totally okay. No shame. |
